Role/ Department:
The Operational Risk Manager is responsible for implementing the overall operational risk management program in conjunction with the Global Head of Non-Financial Risk, Operational Risk Transformation Lead, and other Operational Risk Managers across the organization. The Manager also serves as a seasoned thought leader and subject matter expert that has a strong technical understanding of risk management, including Risk Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) processes and activities, within the financial services industry. The person performing this position will be responsible leading the team, ensuring all employees buy into the overall vision, and will be responsible for the overall success of the team.
In this high profile role this person will actively engage with senior members of the Northern Trust leadership team (e.g., Global Head of Non-Financial Risk, Operational Risk Transformation Lead, Regional Risk Officers, and Country Risk Managers) and will serve as a primary point of contact for stakeholders across the organization.
In addition, the Manager will advise senior management on opportunities to enhance the design and operating effectiveness of the internal control environment for Northern Trust’s risk management practices.
This role resides within our Philippines Service Center, based in Metro Manila, and will report to the Operational Risk Transformation Lead in Chicago, USA.
The key responsibilities of the role include: Management of the RCSA program deliverables - action plans, post effectiveness testing, control evaluation etc.Review workflows to minimize risks associated with the process & improve overall control environment.Development, maintenance and ongoing enhancement of process controls including initiation of projects, where requiredImplementation of controls to mitigate process risks in case of operational errors / near misses / exceptionsStrong stakeholder engagement to ensure identification of issues, timely completion of action plans via scheduled platforms as well as opportunities to deliver back via training/awareness sessionsReview key risk indicator framework; scorecards, dashboards to ensure appropriateness of metrics / key performance indicators and facilitate business reviewsPart of a team of risk management professionals who work with senior management in all lines of business to coordinate operational risk management activities.Contribute to establishing and maintaining program processes and practices which effectively ensure that the enterprise program remains current, and incorporates/aligns with industry standards and practices as appropriate, and adequately covers general regulatory requirements.Manage or lead projects aimed at improving the overall programCommunicate identified risks to key stakeholders, organize remediation action plans, and track identified risks to closure
Skills/ Qualifications: Fluent in English and ability to communicate in a clear, concise and effective manner (verbal and written)9+ years financial services experience with minimum 3 years of operational risk, controls or audit experienceExcellent working knowledge of audit, risk and operational management concepts and the ability to understand and interpret the impact of decisions, as well as identify and convey potential problem areasAbility to foster positive and proactive approach to process assessment and improvement and to identify trends and improve processes for both the customer and the businessStrong organization, attention to detail, time management, planning skills and the ability to handle multiple competing prioritiesAbility to make independent decisions and also to be a team player and effective communicator to ensure that issues are appropriately resolvedConfidence and expertise to advise management and the businessAbility to use initiative and work unsupervised in a proactive mannerStrong organizational skills, a collaborative approach to work, with strong interpersonal skillsAbility to deal effectively with multiple competing deadlinesAttention to detail
