About the Role:
We are looking for an experienced System Administrator to join our IT team. As a System Administrator, you will be responsible for maintaining and supporting our organization's IT infrastructure, including servers, operating systems, storage systems, and network components. You will ensure the availability, performance, and security of all systems, performing regular system maintenance, troubleshooting issues, and supporting infrastructure projects. You will also work closely with other IT teams to implement new systems and ensure their proper integration into the environment.
Key Responsibilities:
System Installation and Configuration
- Install, configure, and maintain servers (physical and virtual) across different operating systems (e.g., Windows, Linux, UNIX).
- Manage server environments, including provisioning, patching, and lifecycle management.
- Ensure the proper installation and configuration of operating systems, database systems, applications, and security tools.
System Maintenance and Monitoring
- Regularly monitor system performance, availability, and security across various platforms.
- Perform scheduled maintenance tasks, such as updates, patches, and system backups.
- Monitor server health, system logs, and performance metrics to identify potential issues.
- Implement system monitoring tools to proactively detect and resolve system-related issues.
Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution
- Investigate, diagnose, and resolve system issues, including hardware, software, and network-related problems.
- Provide technical support to internal teams and end-users for system-related issues.
- Troubleshoot and resolve system errors, performance degradation, and system outages, minimizing downtime.
- Perform root cause analysis of recurring system issues and take steps to prevent future occurrences.
System Security Management
- Implement and maintain security measures to protect systems and data, including access control, encryption, and security protocols.
- Regularly perform security audits and system vulnerability assessments.
- Apply security patches and updates to operating systems, software, and infrastructure components.
- Configure firewalls, antivirus tools, and intrusion detection systems to safeguard the organization’s IT environment.
- Manage user access controls and permissions to ensure the integrity and confidentiality of critical systems.
Backup and Disaster Recovery
- Manage backup systems to ensure that critical data and system configurations are securely backed up.
- Perform regular system data recovery tests and disaster recovery drills.
- Create and maintain disaster recovery plans for systems and infrastructure to ensure business continuity in case of failure.
- Develop and implement strategies for data retention and backup management, ensuring compliance with organizational policies.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain comprehensive system documentation, including configurations, troubleshooting procedures, and backup schedules.
- Create detailed reports on system performance, security incidents, and system uptime.
- Document system changes, updates, and maintenance activities, ensuring that records are up-to-date and accurate.
- Prepare reports and presentations for senior management and stakeholders regarding system health and improvements.
System Optimization
- Perform system tuning and optimization to enhance the performance and reliability of systems.
- Recommend and implement new technologies, tools, or best practices to improve system efficiency.
- Analyze system logs, data usage, and performance metrics to optimize system resources.
- Review and manage storage capacity, ensuring that resources are appropriately allocated and utilized.
Collaboration and Support
- Work closely with network, storage, and database teams to ensure the seamless integration and operation of systems across the organization.
- Collaborate with other IT departments and project teams to implement new systems, upgrades, and integrations.
- Provide technical support and assistance to other departments on system-related matters.
- Assist in system deployment and configuration for new projects and initiatives.
Continuous Improvement
- Stay updated with the latest trends and developments in system administration, technology, and best practices.
- Participate in training sessions and technical certifications to enhance knowledge and skills.
- Proactively suggest improvements to the system architecture and processes to improve efficiency, security, and scalability.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Experience:
- 3-5 years of experience in system administration or IT infrastructure support.
- Proven experience managing both physical and virtualized environments (VMware, Hyper-V, etc.).
- Strong knowledge of server hardware, operating systems, and networking protocols.
- Experience with system monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, Zabbix, or SolarWinds).
- Familiarity with cloud platforms and virtualization technologies.
- Knowledge of storage systems, backups, and disaster recovery procedures.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency with operating systems (Linux, Windows Server, UNIX).
- Experience with Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and other directory services.
- Knowledge of system automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, or Chef).
- Experience with server security tools and firewall management.
- Familiarity with network protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, SNMP, FTP, HTTP/HTTPS).
- Experience with virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V, etc.).
- Experience with scripting (e.g., Bash, PowerShell, Python).
- Soft Skills:

- ITIL Foundation or similar IT management certifications.
