ABOUT THE ROLE
The Electrical Design Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and management of the electrical design team in delivering the relevant electrical design and drawing scope and requisitions for each shipbuilding project.
The role is to ensure that the electrical design drawings/documents are delivered on schedule, fit for purpose to meet the requirements of specification, Flag (typically IMO High Speed Craft Code) and the Classification society.
This role requires good coordination and communication (written and verbal) with the design team, and with the AP Electrical Production Manager, and Austal Australasia Electrical Design Leads.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Schedule and Budget Adherence for Electrical Design projects
- Review the initial electrical design project schedule and ensure that the project schedule is realistic and can be successfully executed with the availability of sufficient resources.
- Manage design schedules and ensure that design tasks align with production timelines and support efficient workflow.
- Ensure that electrical design deliverables, including drawings, requisitions, and material take-off (MTO) information, are delivered within the specified due dates for each project.
- Address and resolve electrical issues promptly to maintain schedule adherence, ensuring minimal impact on project timelines.
- Identify and mitigate potential schedule risks, develop mitigation strategies and implement necessary actions to minimise schedule delays and optimise project outcomes.
- Communicate with transparency and effectively the risks that may impact the schedule, allowing for timely and appropriate decision-making.

2. Fit-for-purpose electrical design quality and compliance with standards.
- Assess and evaluate proposed electrical designs to ensure they meet the functional requirements and intended purpose of the vessel.
- Verify that electrical designs align with the technical specifications provided for the vessel, ensuring all requirements are met.
- Address client requirements and ensure they are met, taking into account any variations or requests that may exceed the vessel's specifications.
- Develop electrical drawings that adhere to the established design and production standards, ensuring consistency and quality throughout the process.
- Implement rigorous quality control measures to minimise the need for rework and prevent warranty issues arising from electrical design discrepancies.
- Identify and capture potential risks relevant to the electrical design area during risk review meetings, ensuring appropriate mitigation strategies are put in place.
- Collaborate with the team during drawing "Checkplot" sessions to review and verify the accuracy and compliance of electrical designs.

3.  Compliance with the requirements of Classification Societies and Flag State Authorities
- Review and ensure that the electrical design meets the specific requirements outlined in the relevant codes for IMO High-Speed craft Code or other applicable flag state regulations.
- Collaborate closely with the assigned Classification Society and ensure that the electrical design adheres to their guidelines and standards.
- Incorporate any additional requirements or regulations imposed by the local flag state authorities into the electrical design, ensuring full compliance.
- Verify that the electrical design aligns with other relevant international standards beyond those specified by the Classification Society and Flag State Authorities to ensure comprehensive compliance.
- Adhere to the Company's established design standards and guidelines throughout the electrical design process, ensuring consistency, quality, and compliance with internal standards.

4. Accurate Electrical Calculations and Minimal Rework
- Undertake electrical calculations, including cable sizing, battery calculations, discrimination analysis, load balance calculations, and other relevant calculations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable flag/class codes, the Company’s standards, and industry best practices.
- Verify that all electrical design calculations adhere to the specific requirements outlined in the relevant flag/class codes, ensuring compliance and regulatory adherence.
- Follow the Company's established standards and guidelines for electrical calculations, ensuring consistency, quality, and compliance with internal standards.
- Review and validate electrical calculations to identify and rectify any potential design errors or inconsistencies, ensuring accurate calculations to minimise the need for rework and associated costs and delays.
- Minimize comments or queries from the class society regarding the design, ensuring a smoother approval process and minimising potential revisions.

5. Effective communication and issue resolution with stakeholders for effective design solutions.
- Collaborate and coordinate with the teams to ensure smooth integration of electrical design with the overall production process, and to include timely communication, sharing relevant information, and addressing any design-related issues that may arise throughout the production phase.
- Maintain regular and clear communication with the electrical design lead in Australia, which involves providing updates, seeking guidance or clarification, and collaborating on resolving design-related challenges or issues.
- Actively identify and address design-related issues in a proactive manner, promptly communicating any concerns, proposing potential solutions, and working collaboratively with stakeholders to reach consensus and arrive at effective design solutions.
Essential:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering & a Licensed Philippine Electrical Engineer.
- 10+ Years electrical marine design experience in Aluminium or Steel shipbuilding projects.
- Strong leadership and management skills to lead the electrical design team and 3+ experience leading teams.
- Strong electrical knowledge design skills to meet vessel specification & rules requirements.
- Good knowledge of classification society/Flag rule requirement.
- Excellent communication skills to coordinate with design, production and project teams in written and spoken English.
- Strong analytical skills to undertaken problem solving.
- Familiarity with 2D (AutoCad)
- Tertiary qualification in a technical field with substantial experience in the marine industry.
- Competent with MS Office, Word & Excel
