JOB SUMMARY

Avid Technical Support is responsible for the provision of high quality technical and operational support for our software and solutions. Avid has a product range from low-end host based to high-end infrastructure solutions, including dedicated mixing surfaces, video editing, music production, post production, and broadcast news.

Working in association with our Technical Marketing and worldwide Support and Engineering/Testing Team, Resellers as well as Avid’s (international) Support, the individual will be responsible for ensuring consistency of support standards throughout the territory to assigned customer bases.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

    Provides expert technical support on products throughout the customers Avid workflow, including editing, storage, asset management, cloud-based solutions, and news production
    Work within a global support team covering 24x7x365 operations
    Able to write effective handoff from shift-to-shift for support issues
    Provides proactive patch/upgrade planning including version compatibility
    Provides best practice recommendations and guidance on new implementations and support optimization
    Provides direct access to Avid Engineering, Product Management, Professional Services, and subject matter experts
    Reviews weekly case backlog reports and provides prioritization to Avid on customers behalf
    Creates and manages support cases in Avid’s case management system as appropriate
    Provides input to Product Management teams related to customer requirements
    Reports and tracks bugs related to software and/or hardware at Avid customer sites
    Reproduces and logs bugs as required
    Engages additional specialized Avid resources such as Licensing support when needed
    Follows up on customer issues with appropriate Avid internal groups
    Liaises with appropriate Avid management on a periodic basis to ensure visibility
    Adheres to Avid’s relevant contractual SLAs (Service Level Agreements)
    Support and troubleshoot systems and application issues hosted in Cloud Platforms
    Utilize a broad range of skills with for multiple roles and responsibilities.
    Work with Development and Operations teams to address any issues escalated to Cloud Platforms
    Work intimately with peers, other groups, and vendors to complete projects and maintain the environment
    Manage the transition of technology initiatives from inception to production status
    Management of operations including documentation, transitional technical support, systems analysis, IT training and operational support of implemented technologies
    Communicate technical information to non-technical personnel effectively
    Create up to date utilization reports for monitoring the various environments

QUALIFICATIONS

    BA (Hons) or BSc in relevant degree such as Media, Electronics, Computing, or relevant field.

    A minimum of three years of relevant experience, providing high end technical support to complex technology solutions.

    Knowledge about network architecture, IT and troubleshooting required.
    Linux-based operating systems administration with focus on security, automation, tuning, optimization, and standardization of new and deployed applications.
    General knowledge of cloud concepts and architecture, serverless machines, containers, etc. is highly desirable but not required.
    Exposure to or some experience with the following: HTML, CSS, MYSQL highly desirable
    Diagram and Document all changes made throughout change and configuration process
    Existing knowledge/user experience with Avid’s Video Editing systems, Cloud solutions, Storage, Asset Management, post-production workflows, terminology, and equipment a plus
    Knowledge of Virtualization Architecture and troubleshooting is a plus.
    Fluency in English; second language is a plus

Role Overview

The General Manager – Software Engineering role will oversee the development and implementation of strategy and business plans for one or more functional areas in line with the broader Datacom direction. This role will involve managing daily business activities, including.

working alongside colleagues for sales and customer success, as well as designing and implementing strategies to improve overall business functions.

Role Responsibilities

The General Manager –Software Engineering is responsible for (but not limited to):

• Owning the development and implementation of strategy for one or more functional areas, in line with broader Datacom strategy.
• Collaborating with other senior managers to establish strategic plans and objectives. Planning, personnel, budgeting, managing expense priorities, and recommending and implementing changes to methods.
• Involved in development of methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for projects, programs, and strategy.
• Directing and controlling the activities of own area of business, sometimes through managers within the team.
• Supporting Sales, Presales and Technical teams across Datacom ensuring an aligned go[1]to-market approach focused on growth and mutual benefit between Datacom and our customers.
• Managing the relationships with (and between) external agencies and suppliers, ensuring contracts and service levels are negotiated in line with strategic aims and financial constraints and ongoing service is in-line with agreed contracts.
• Making final decisions on administrative or operational matters, ensuring effective achievement of operational objectives.
• Ensuring budgets and schedules meet requirements.

Primary Purpose:

Work closely with project team members and the business to ensure a clear understanding of business requirements and solution design

Work with IT and business and 3rd party stakeholders to implement quality and defect free changes into IT systems

Use their business, functional and system knowledge and testing industry experience and knowledge of OW standards to provide input into testing strategy. 

Develops test plans and scenarios to meet the testing strategy and scope.  Prepare for and executes all identified test cycles.  Document testing results, and record and track defects to successful resolution.  Communicate testing status.

Support business UAT testers in the completion of UAT on larger projects.  On smaller projects co-ordinate and lead UAT.  Work with functional and development teams to communicate and resolve defects.

Responsibilities include:

o   Develop, update and maintain testing standards and procedures

o   Provide testing estimates based on requirements

o   Prepare Test Case Scenarios and documentation

o   Prepare test data based on requirements/solution design

o   Support developers and functional analysts with unit testing

o   Execute test scripts for all phases of testing

o   Prepare and deliver solutions training activities to business users where required

o   Work with the business teams to ensure full User Acceptance testing is done prior to business sign-off for deployment.  

o   Keep track of any defects arising from the testing or post-go-live, prioritise defects with the business teams and work with technical teams to resolve

o   Input into test reporting on larger projects. On smaller projects prepare test reporting and communicate status to stakeholders

o   Work with the appropriate business and IT teams to resolve any issues that arise out of the testing process

o   Participate in the release control process (when application changes are transferred from build to test) to ensure that solutions meet business requirements

o   Inform/escalate to appropriate team/s of any issues that may affect the schedule, budget or quality of build changes or the testing process

o   Participate in the deployment and production verification process (when application changes are deployed to production and go through production verification testing and hypercare support) to ensure that solutions meet business requirements

• At least 5 years I.T. experience

• Retail industry highly recommended
• At least 3-5 years testing experience mandatory
• Solid experience with Regression Testing
• Experience with relevant Enterprise Solutions (eg SAP, Salesforce Platform including sales processes, PIM, Gains, NetTikit)
• Experience with other system tools used in testing and documentation highly desirable (eg ALM, Jira, Confluence, Sharepoint, ServiceNow, Excel)
