A Coating/Painting Estimator plays a crucial role in the construction and renovation industry, specializing in estimating the costs and materials required for painting projects. This position involves assessing the scope of work, providing accurate cost estimates, and ensuring that projects are financially viable. The Painting Estimator collaborates with project managers, clients, and suppliers to create detailed proposals and bids that meet the client's expectations and budget constraints.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Evaluation: Assess the specifications and requirements of projects, including surface area, type of surfaces, desired finish, and other relevant details.
- Cost Estimation: Calculate the total cost of materials, labor, equipment, and overhead expenses needed for each project. This may include paint, primer, brushes, rollers, scaffolding, and protective gear.
- Budget Development: Create accurate and competitive project budgets, taking into account profit margins and potential cost-saving strategies.
- Proposal Preparation: Develop detailed and professional proposals for clients, presenting cost breakdowns, project timelines, and terms and conditions.
- Vendor and Supplier Relations: Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers and subcontractors to secure competitive pricing for materials and services.
- Site Visits: Conduct site visits and inspections to gather essential project information and to ensure an accurate estimate.
- Documentation: Maintain records of all estimates, bids, and relevant project documents to track project progress and for future reference.
- Cost Monitoring: Collaborate with project managers to ensure that the actual project costs align with the estimated budgets, making adjustments as needed.
- Client Communication: Effectively communicate with clients to answer questions, address concerns, and make adjustments to project proposals as necessary.
- Market Research: Stay updated on industry trends, pricing fluctuations, and new painting techniques to remain competitive in the market.
- At least 2 years experience in Painting Estimating.
- Experience estimating for Australian or other international projects will be advantageous
- Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field is preferred, but not always required.
- Strong understanding of painting techniques, materials, and construction processes.
- Proficiency in cost estimation software and tools such as Cubit, MS Excel, AutoCad and SketchUp.
- Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings with meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent mathematical and analytical skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and industry standards.
