Role Overview
The General Manager – Software Engineering role will oversee the development and implementation of strategy and business plans for one or more functional areas in line with the broader Datacom direction. This role will involve managing daily business activities, including.
working alongside colleagues for sales and customer success, as well as designing and implementing strategies to improve overall business functions.
Role Responsibilities
The General Manager –Software Engineering is responsible for (but not limited to):
- Owning the development and implementation of strategy for one or more functional areas, in line with broader Datacom strategy.
- Collaborating with other senior managers to establish strategic plans and objectives. Planning, personnel, budgeting, managing expense priorities, and recommending and implementing changes to methods.
- Involved in development of methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for projects, programs, and strategy.
- Directing and controlling the activities of own area of business, sometimes through managers within the team.
- Supporting Sales, Presales and Technical teams across Datacom ensuring an aligned go[1]to-market approach focused on growth and mutual benefit between Datacom and our customers.
- Managing the relationships with (and between) external agencies and suppliers, ensuring contracts and service levels are negotiated in line with strategic aims and financial constraints and ongoing service is in-line with agreed contracts.
- Making final decisions on administrative or operational matters, ensuring effective achievement of operational objectives.
- Ensuring budgets and schedules meet requirements.
- Interactions frequently involve special skills, such as negotiating with customers or management or attempting to influence senior level leaders regarding matters of significance to the business.
- Responsible for implementing a principle driven health and safety culture that cares for employees and ensures their safety in line with Datacom policy.
- Takes reasonable care that their actions (or inactions) do not harm the Health and Safety of self or others. Reports all incidents, hazards, or unsafe work practices as per Datacom policy.
Knowledge
- Extensive knowledge and experience in the customer services field.
- Deep and broad understanding of the business and technology strategies in which the organization operates.
- Strong strategic background, with an ability to grasp the big picture.
- High level understanding of the unique business requirements of the organization.
- Knowledge of finance management practices with a clear understanding of the relationship between costs, utilization, and project revenue.
- Strong business acumen
Experience
- 10+ years of senior commercial or sales experience within a complex and multi- faceted management services environment.
- Demonstrated experience managing service delivery teams within an outsourcing arrangement.
- Finance management, including cost estimation and budget tracking and reporting.
Skills
- Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written), flexibility, team focus and dedication to customer service.
- Demonstrated leadership and people management skills and the ability to work to deadlines.
- Proven track record of achieving or exceeding budgeted sales and profit objectives.
