Canvas8 company logo

Do you have an inquisitive mind with an eye for spotting patterns and a superskill in researching and finding hidden gems on the web? Are you a digital culture fanatic? We are looking for a Desk Researcher to join our Manila team.

If you are a passionate researcher, culturally and commercially savvy, seeking to uncover insights and drive innovation across multiple industries, this role is for you. Whether you're trawling reports, poring over data sets, searching for cultural indicators, or crafting presentations, you'll be a vital part of our mission to deliver exceptional insights and strategy services to our clients. As a member of our global team of analysts, you'll have the opportunity to work with some of the world's most recognizable brands, including Nike, Google, Lego, and Ogilvy.

About us

We are Canvas8, a strategic insights practice operating out of London, NY, LA, Singapore and Manila. We help our clients understand people so they can make better business decisions.

Our work is about investigating the hidden insights in everyday life – from the psychology of boredom to teenage make-up rituals to why Barbiecore is a Gen Y thing – and making them meaningful for brands. Our team is a blend of different disciplines and skills – from psychology to journalism, and anthropology to behavioural economics. What unites them is a desire to understand people and a passion for delivering outstanding work.

About the role

Based in Manila, this role is for a remarkable researcher with 2 years of experience in a relevant field - but we’re not prescriptive about what that means. Maybe you have a background in journalism, anthropology or psychology. Maybe you are trained in content marketing or brand strategy. Maybe you’ve done a combination of the above. Our team don’t fit into a box, and come from a wide range of backgrounds.

As part of the growing Membership team, you’ll be helping to solve client queries by researching cultural, social and technological shifts as well as industry changes. The research is incredibly varied. One day you might be getting to grips with the psychology of doom scrolling, the next you might be researching why teenagers play sports. You’ll need to be ambitious, driven, personable and wanting to be involved – pouring over data, sourcing cultural artefacts, identifying significant patterns, analysing shifts in society, and writing to deadlines.

The day-to-day

  • Delivering a variety of membership products, ranging from mini behavioural reports to expert shortlists to presentation decks
  • Researching consumer behaviour, trends and shifts, collating this information and creating research packs for project teams to comprehensively get to grips with a new topic
  • Analysing qualitative data and cultural shifts to uncover key themes recommend commercial opportunities
  • Telling engaging and commercially applicable stories through data
  • Writing up your concise analysis on trends into easy-to-read, informative formats
  • Using AI enabled search and your deep understanding of cultural shifts to compile relevant reads from our library of 36,000 articles to answer ad hoc client queries
  • Absorbing yourself in the research reports published on the Canvas8 Library

About you

If you're a curious-minded individual who loves problem-solving and has a keen sense of commercial awareness, we'd love to hear from you. We are looking for a good writer, comfortable analysing data sets, conducting desk research and crafting narratives - someone who is familiar with the world of consumer trends, cultural analysis, strategy and research.

You’re culturally savvy

You're a natural organiser

Super-organised and process-oriented, you can work to deadlines, thrive in a fast-paced environment and always look to streamline and smooth workflow. You’re comfortable working on multiple projects from start to finish, communicating proactively with others, and getting hands-on with research and fieldwork.

  • Superb desk research skills
