ABOUT THE ROLE 

We are looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Bookkeeper with Xero expertise for our client, an accounting advisory firm based in Sydney, Australia. Our client specialises in providing comprehensive financial solutions and strategic advice to a diverse range of clients. We seek a skilled Accountant to support the Australian onshore team in maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring compliance with Australian accounting regulations. 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

ACCOUNTING TASKS 

    • Manage the day-to-day bookkeeping activities, including accounts payable and receivable, payroll processing, and bank reconciliations. 
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records using accounting software – XERO. 
    • Prepare and issue invoices, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery to clients. 
    • Process and reconcile financial transactions, including credit card expenses and vendor payments. 
    • Process GST on transactions with/without invoices to ensure compliance with GST regulations. 
    • Identify discrepancies and allocate expenses accordingly via journal entries. 
    • Update and maintain fixed asset register, including depreciation, amortisation, and repayments of equipment purchases on finance. 
    • Assist in preparing and submitting activity statements – monthly and quarterly. 
    • Stay current with accounting principles and regulations to ensure compliance and suggest improvements to processes and procedures. 

ADMINISTRATIVE TASKS 

    • Complete daily timesheet entries on time with accuracy. 
    • Set up new entities or clients via the online portal. 
    • Set up tax registrations for clients via the online portal. 
    • Keep client contact details updated in the system, such as residential and email addresses. 
    • A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or similar is preferred but not essential. 
    • Previous experience of at least three (3) years in accounting to bring your expertise to the team. 
    • Solid understanding of accounting principles and regulations. 
    • Experience working in an Australian business is preferred. 
    • Impeccable attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in financial transactions and reporting. 
    • Strong organisational and administrative skills combined with innovative thinking and problem-solving abilities. 
    • Excellent communication skills to build positive relationships with stakeholders. 
    • Proficient in XERO software or other cloud-based accounting applications. 
    • Experience with using payroll systems and databases. 
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
