This is a full-time role, Monday to Friday, DAYSHIFT
This is an office-based position in Balamban, Cebu, the shipping capital of the Philippines.
The expected start date is March 2024.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Junior Mechanical Engineer, you will play a vital role in the design and development of cutting-edge marine projects. Your primary responsibility will be to undertake mechanical drawings (2D&3D) and perform calculations to ensure compliance with flag, classification societies, and technical specifications. Working with limited supervision, you will contribute to the creation of design packages that are fit for purpose and align with project schedules and budgets.
In this role, you will utilize your strong mechanical knowledge and design skills to meet vessel specifications and regulatory requirements. Your proficiency in Autocad, Navisworks, and other design software will enable you to create accurate and detailed mechanical drawings. Additionally, your excellent communication skills will be essential as you coordinate with design, production, and project teams.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Create detailed 2D and 3D mechanical drawings
- Generate accurate and comprehensive mechanical drawings using software such as AUTOCAD and Plant 3D/SHIPCON.
2. Perform mechanical calculations
- Conduct mechanical calculations to determine factors such as pipe flow, pump selection, and the performance of various mechanical equipment, including shafting and rudders.
3. Prepare requisitions and provide technical support
- Collaborate with other team members to prepare requisitions for equipment, materials, and components needed for the projects.
- Provide technical support to the team and production staff, addressing design-related queries, clarifications, and troubleshooting issues that may arise during the construction phase.
4. Coordinate with Production and Supply Chain Management
- Work closely with these teams to ensure that the design specifications are effectively translated into the manufacturing process.
- Provide necessary inputs, address design-related challenges, and support the production team to ensure seamless integration between design and construction.
Essential:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or mechanical engineering technology.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, preferably in Aluminium or Steel shipbuilding projects.
- Strong mechanical knowledge and design skills to meet vessel specifications and regulatory requirements.
- Good understanding of classification society and flag rule requirements.
- Proficiency in 2D/3D design software such as AUTOCAD and NAVISWORKS.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken, to effectively coordinate with design, production, and project teams.
- Strong analytical skills for problem-solving and experience with calculations using Excel.
Desirable:
- Experience in aluminum shipbuilding.
- Licensed Philippine Mechanical Engineer.
- Familiarity with 3D SHIP CAD software such as SHIPCON and Plant 3D.
- Proficiency in other 3D modeling software.
