As a Medical Scribe, you will play a crucial role in supporting healthcare providers by accurately transcribing medical information into Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems.
Operating in a virtual environment, you'll need to excel in independent work, maintain meticulous attention to detail, and exhibit exceptional typing and computer skills. Your role will involve transcribing various forms of medical documentation, including audio recordings, live conversations, and written notes, into EMR systems with precision and efficiency.
Responsibilities:
- Accurately document patient encounters, including medical histories, eye examinations, and treatment plans, in Eyefinity, the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
- Assist optometrists during patient examinations by recording findings, test results, and treatment recommendations in real-time.
- Coordinate with the pharmacy to send prescriptions and ensure timely delivery of medications to patients.
- Facilitate communication between the optometrist and other healthcare providers by sending referrals and coordinating follow-up care as needed.
- Answer phones and greet patients in a professional and friendly manner, providing assistance and directing calls to appropriate staff members.
- Accurately Document Patient Encounters: Utilize Eyefinity, the electronic medical record (EMR) system, to meticulously document patient encounters, encompassing medical histories, eye examinations, and treatment plans. Ensure all entries are accurate, timely, and compliant with regulatory standards.
- Assist Optometrists During Examinations: Collaborate closely with optometrists during patient examinations by diligently recording findings, test results, and treatment recommendations in real-time. Maintain attentiveness and precision to capture all relevant information effectively.
- Coordinate Prescription Management: Interface with the pharmacy to transmit prescriptions promptly and ensure the timely delivery of medications to patients. Uphold accuracy in prescription details and facilitate seamless communication to meet patient needs efficiently.
- Provide Professional Reception Services: Extend courteous and professional phone etiquette and in-person greetings to patients, offering assistance and directing calls to appropriate staff members promptly. Maintain a welcoming environment conducive to patient comfort and satisfaction.
- Efficient Appointment Management: Manage the clinic's appointment calendar adeptly, scheduling patient appointments and ensuring optimal utilization of clinic resources. Exercise proficiency in appointment scheduling software to streamline scheduling processes.
- Insurance Verification and Claims Processing: Verify patient insurance coverage and eligibility accurately, process insurance claims efficiently, and assist with pre-authorizations for procedures and treatments. Ensure adherence to insurance protocols and facilitate seamless billing procedures.
- Update Patient Information: Maintain accuracy and completeness of patient information and medical records in the practice management system (PMS) and EMR. Uphold strict confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations and patient privacy laws.
- Demonstrated experience as a Medical Scribe, with a minimum of 30 hours of scribing experience, preferably in an optometry or healthcare setting.
- Background in medical receptionist or administrative assistant roles.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, emphasizing exceptional customer service to patients.
- Proficiency in computer skills, encompassing experience with EMR systems, PMS systems, and the Microsoft Office Suite. Adaptability to learn and navigate new software applications efficiently.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a cohesive healthcare team.
- Understanding of HIPAA regulations and the importance of patient data confidentiality.
- Willingness to work on Pacific Daylight Time (PDT) schedule.
- Own a Laptop or Desktop with 8GB RAM, Core i5 or above, and Microsoft Office. Plus, a reliable internet connection (at least 10 Mbps).
