JOB SUMMARY
Primary responsibility will involve 1) preparing and filing sales and use tax returns for over 130 registered state and local jurisdictions in the United States, 2) preparing and filing Canada’s GST / HST / QST monthly returns, and 3) compiling gross receipt and corresponding tax data for Australia and Japan to be sent to local accountants for reporting purposes. Participate in the exempt certificate project, as necessary.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Responsible for preparation and filing of sales and use tax returns for US jurisdictions where Avid is registered. Perform monthly reconciliations by comparing monthly SAP reports and Sovos reports. Ensure timely monthly return submissions and payment reconciliations. Prepare and file Canada’s GST / HST / QST computations and filings. Reconcile the GL accounts to Sovos and returns filed. Compile Australia’s GST detail to create a workbook that is sent to an Australian tax accountant who files the monthly return. A payment request is generated and once approved sent to AP to wire the funds to the Australian Tax Office. Pull together Japan’s current month’s detail to determines if the monthly return will be filed on actual transactions or on the prior year tax amount. This report is sent to accountants in Japan to file. A payment request is created and sent to AP to wire the monthly interim tax payment to the Japan Tax Agent so they can forward the funds to the Japan Government. Support the Order Management team by providing tax guidance on orders being processed. Work closely with Order Management as orders are created to determine if tax exempt certificates are required along with tax calculations. Assist in the clean-up and collection of customers’ tax-exempt certificates. This project will entail reaching out to over 9,000 customers to obtain their updated tax-exempt certificates. The certificates will then need to be uploaded into Sovos to migrate over to Avalara.
WHO YOU ARE:
- Proficiency in SAP preferred.
- Proficiency in Sovos preferred.
- Proficiency in Excel.
- Experience with State and Local Tax (SALT) preparing and filing returns.
Note: The role can be done as a full time or part-time. The role is a temporary assignment for 6 months.
