POSITION SUMMARY:
The Farm Veterinarian is responsible for ensuring the maintenance and improvement of the health status of all animals in the assigned farms by implementing the herd health programs, biosecurity procedures and monitoring of inventory of veterinary products used to implement such programs in order to achieve production volume targets and swine operational efficiency.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manages Health, Mortality and Morbidity Rates
Implements herd health programs for the assigned farms. Updates the farms' vaccination and medication programs when needed and recommends therapeutic regimen in cases as they arise.
Conducts routine rounds in the farms to check on health status of animals and responds to control disease situations.
Conducts over-all assessment of the management and husbandry practices in the farms to evaluate factors that may influence and impact the herd health.
Conducts medication and vaccination trials including other veterinary and production related trials and evaluates regularly health and performance status of pigs under the trial.
Performs necropsy of pigs and submits findings to Farm Manager and Veterinary Manager and provides assessment based on historical background, relevant data, clinical and necropsy findings.
Submits specimens and samples to external party for diagnostics and analysis to check health status of herd.
Conducts regular health screening and ensures that all needed diagnostic procedures are accomplished in a timely manner.
Ensures that all veterinary related documents and reports are accomplished and submitted in a timely manner.
Compliance to Farm Biosecurity Policies and SOPs
Ensures that the company’s biosecurity policies and SOPs are strictly followed.
Conducts regular biosecurity audits to ensure compliance on the biosecurity procedures.
Explores on processes, products, technologies and practices that may help improve the existing biosecurity procedures.
Provides biosecurity recommendations to further improve the farms' biosecurity procedures.
Inventory Monitoring
Checks inventory of veterinary stocks and ensures that stocks are sufficient all the time.
Ensures that veterinary stocks are available for use in the farms.
Ensures proper management of near expiry medicines and vaccines including other veterinary stocks to avoid or minimize expiring stocks.
Ensures proper implementation of biosecurity procedures for incoming stocks in the farms.
Coordination with Government Agencies
Prepares and signs veterinary documents, e.g. Pedigree Certificate, Veterinary Health Certificate, Vaccination Records, etc.
Prepares documents and facilitates the processes necessary to secure veterinary shipping documents and other veterinary certificates, permits or licenses.
Coordinates with relevant government agencies to ensure smooth and seamless transactions in the shipment of hogs.
Represents the Pilmico Farms in veterinary-related activities and other concerns.
Other Duties
Controls medication and other veterinary related costs and aims to reduce them whenever necessary.
Conducts training of farm personnel on animal diseases and symptoms and cascades updates on animal health.
Facilitates creation, development, delivery and implementation of the Pilmico Farms training programs.
