Job Brief:
The Tax Compliance Specialist is responsible for performing simple to moderately complex Tax activities. The role contributes to the income tax reporting and compliance of AECOM and its Subsidiaries with the IRS/State regulations focusing on the preparation and filing of U.S. federal and state income tax returns and calculation of tax adjustments for provision. The role performs analytical processes under the moderate guidance of senior team members.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Prepares tax forms for Federal, State and International Compliance.
- Performs analysis and reconciliation of account balances, proposes simple reclassifications to assist in the year-end preparation of Consolidated Federal Form 1120 for AECOM and Subsidiaries including foreign related filings
- Calculates tax adjustments and sets up the corresponding tax provisions
- Maintains the rollforward of Tax related general ledger (GL) accounts by performing flux analyses and periodically reconciling end of period general ledger balances against provision numbers
- Reconciles Quarterly Consolidated Fixed Asset Rollforward against Additions/disposal or FA Cost Detail Report/Schedules for small entities
- Performs intermediate level processes within Tax Software
- Submits the tax returns to IRS through paper or electronic filing, and sends to external Joint Venture partners
- Tracks and maintains carry forward amounts such as NOLs, prior year overpayment and partners' book and tax capital accounts to assist with compliance and tax calculations
- Responds and addresses simple to moderately complex queries and requests from external Joint venture partners with the guidance of Senior Tax Compliance Specialist
- Completes research to support positions taken in the tax returns, recognizes and escalates project issues to senior team members
- Notifies Senior Tax Compliance Specialist of any IRS/State Notices received related to Tax Returns being prepared
- Works with accounting, finance, treasury, and relevant parties from different segment to gather financials, apportionment schedules, and supporting calculations to assist in the completion of projects assigned
- Escalate and analyze identified issues and concerns to the Team Lead for timely resolution.
- Maintain the SOP/DTP of current processes and incorporate documentation updates as required.
- Assess identified issues and collate documentation to assist in investigating and in resolving common and recurring issues.
- Perform simple but varied tasks in compliance with service level agreement, process, policies, and procedures.
- Support selected simple process improvement initiatives to streamline processes.
Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting
- Licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
- At least 2-3 years of professional experience with US Tax Preparation and Tax Analysis functions
- Working knowledge of accounting and tax principles
- Intermediate proficiency in MS Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Experience in US Federal and State Tax Compliance is preferred
- Exposure to large ERP systems, in particular Oracle, Hyperion and BCP experience is preferred
- Experience with Tax preparation using Corptax Software is preferred
