Key Responsibilities:
Application Development
- Develop, enhance, and maintain applications using ADABAS and NATURAL programming languages.
- Write efficient, maintainable, and reusable code to meet project requirements and business objectives.
- Collaborate with business analysts and project managers to understand system requirements and translate them into functional specifications.
- Design and develop system interfaces, database structures, and application logic.
System Design and Architecture
- Work with system architects to design application architecture, ensuring scalability, performance, and maintainability.
- Ensure integration between ADABAS databases and other systems or applications using relevant interfaces and protocols.
- Provide recommendations on system improvements and potential technology upgrades.
Testing and Debugging
- Perform unit and integration testing to ensure the functionality of ADABAS/NATURAL applications.
- Identify and resolve technical issues, bugs, and performance bottlenecks in the application or database.
- Ensure code quality through rigorous testing and validation processes.
Database Management and Optimization
- Manage, optimize, and maintain ADABAS databases, ensuring optimal performance and efficient data retrieval.
- Write and optimize complex SQL queries and database procedures to support application functionalities.
- Work closely with database administrators to ensure efficient database usage, backups, and recoverability.
Documentation and Reporting
- Create detailed technical documentation for developed solutions, including design specifications, workflows, and data models.
- Prepare status reports, updates, and presentations for project stakeholders.
- Provide training and support to junior developers and other team members on ADABAS/NATURAL technologies.
Collaboration and Stakeholder Communication
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including business analysts, project managers, and QA teams, to ensure successful project delivery.
- Maintain clear communication with stakeholders regarding project status, challenges, and risks.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Experience:
- 3-5 years of experience in software development using ADABAS and NATURAL.
- Proven experience with ADABAS database management and NATURAL programming language.
- Experience with related technologies such as COBOL, SQL, or other mainframe technologies is a plus.
- Experience working in Agile development environments.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong expertise in ADABAS and NATURAL programming for building and maintaining enterprise applications.
- Familiarity with other programming languages such as COBOL, Java, or C# is a plus.
- Strong understanding of database management and SQL query optimization.
- Experience with version control tools (e.g., Git, SVN).
- Understanding of system performance tuning and optimization techniques.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Detail-oriented and able to work under tight deadlines.
- Certifications (preferred):
- NATURAL Programming Certification.
- ADABAS Database Administrator or Developer Certification.
