Senior Accountant - Canada

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Accountant to provide advanced accounting support to a Canadian accounting firm and its clients. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in financial reporting, tax compliance, and payroll management. This role requires in-depth knowledge of Canadian accounting standards, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work independently while delivering exceptional service.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting and Financial Reporting:

• Prepare and review detailed financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports.
• Oversee month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring accuracy and compliance with Canadian GAAP.
• Conduct financial analysis and provide insights to support client decision-making.

Tax Compliance:

• Prepare and review GST/HST filings and ensure timely submission.
• Manage corporate tax returns and year-end tax filings in compliance with Canadian regulations.
• Assist clients with tax planning and advisory services.

Payroll Management:

• Process payroll for clients using tools like QuickBooks Payroll, Ceridian, or ADP.
• Ensure compliance with federal and provincial payroll laws, including T4 and ROE preparation.
• Handle payroll reconciliations and employee benefits administration.

Client Support:

• Act as a primary contact for clients, addressing inquiries and providing expert financial guidance.
• Maintain strong client relationships by delivering timely and accurate services.
• Recommend process improvements and technology solutions to clients for efficiency.

Process Optimization:

• Implement best practices in accounting workflows to ensure efficiency and compliance.
• Leverage tools like Dext, Hubdoc, or Bill.com to automate and streamline processes.
• Stay updated on changes in Canadian accounting and tax regulations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• CPA designation (or equivalent) preferred.
• 5+ years of accounting experience, with a strong background in Canadian accounting and tax compliance.
• Advanced proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, and payroll systems like Ceridian or ADP.
• Comprehensive knowledge of Canadian GAAP, tax laws, and payroll regulations.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Exceptional written and verbal English communication skills.
• Reliable high-speed internet connection and a dedicated home office setup.

Preferred but Not Required

• Familiarity with tools like Dext, Hubdoc, and Bill.com.
• Experience working with multiple clients or industries.
• Proven ability to provide tax advisory and financial planning support.
