Senior Accountant - Canada
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Accountant to provide advanced accounting support to a Canadian accounting firm and its clients. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in financial reporting, tax compliance, and payroll management. This role requires in-depth knowledge of Canadian accounting standards, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work independently while delivering exceptional service.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting and Financial Reporting:
- Prepare and review detailed financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports.
- Oversee month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring accuracy and compliance with Canadian GAAP.
- Conduct financial analysis and provide insights to support client decision-making.
Tax Compliance:
- Prepare and review GST/HST filings and ensure timely submission.
- Manage corporate tax returns and year-end tax filings in compliance with Canadian regulations.
- Assist clients with tax planning and advisory services.
Payroll Management:
- Process payroll for clients using tools like QuickBooks Payroll, Ceridian, or ADP.
- Ensure compliance with federal and provincial payroll laws, including T4 and ROE preparation.
- Handle payroll reconciliations and employee benefits administration.
Client Support:
- Act as a primary contact for clients, addressing inquiries and providing expert financial guidance.
- Maintain strong client relationships by delivering timely and accurate services.
- Recommend process improvements and technology solutions to clients for efficiency.
Process Optimization:
- Implement best practices in accounting workflows to ensure efficiency and compliance.
- Leverage tools like Dext, Hubdoc, or Bill.com to automate and streamline processes.
- Stay updated on changes in Canadian accounting and tax regulations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA designation (or equivalent) preferred.
- 5+ years of accounting experience, with a strong background in Canadian accounting and tax compliance.
- Advanced proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, and payroll systems like Ceridian or ADP.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Canadian GAAP, tax laws, and payroll regulations.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Exceptional written and verbal English communication skills.
- Reliable high-speed internet connection and a dedicated home office setup.
Preferred but Not Required
- Familiarity with tools like Dext, Hubdoc, and Bill.com.
- Experience working with multiple clients or industries.
- Proven ability to provide tax advisory and financial planning support.
